Vice President JD Vance may not have helped Ohio State secure a win, but he did help them fumble their championship trophy.

President Trump's right-hand man helped hoist the massive 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship Game trophy in celebration of his home state's win back in January. Unfortunately, butter fingers struck.

The base of the trophy — made of bronze — fell off as Vance and running back TreVeyon Henderson lifted it in a victorious gesture on Monday. Another teammate swooped in to save the main part of the trophy (a great display of quick thinking which probably explains why they won the championship).

After failing to reattach the pieces together, they posed with just the top of the trophy.

Vance attempted to lighten the mood by joking on X, "I didn't want anyone after Ohio State to get the trophy so I decided to break it."

Vance is a longtime Ohio State ride-or-die. Immediately after the win, he commended the team, telling them, "I'm proud of you guys. You guys were resilient. You were tough. You represented the state of Ohio well. You represented the whole country well."

Upon seeing a man in the audience with a University of Michigan hat, his tune changed. "I don't know who let the guy over in the corner here in a Michigan hat into this celebration," Vance said. "But I'm about to tell the Secret Service you've got a dangerous weapon."
