On Tuesday, December 30, the nonprofit organization, The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, announced the tragic death of Tatiana Schlossberg at the age of 35. Schlossberg was an author and journalist. She was also the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and the granddaughter of former President John F. Kennedy.

“Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts,” her family shared in an Instagram post, signing the tribute “George, Edwin and Josephine Moran, Ed, Caroline, Jack, Rose and Rory.”

During an essay written for The New Yorker in November of 2024, Schlossberg previously shared that she had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The diagnosis came after the birth of her second child when she was 34 years old. She learned that something was amiss when medical tests revealed an imbalance in her white blood cell count. Further tests would reveal that she had a type of cancer known as acute myeloid leukemia. This is considered a rare condition that is typically seen in older adults. She was told she may only have a year to live.

In the wake of the devastating diagnosis, Schlossberg prioritized making the most of her time with her family. However, she also acknowledged the difficulty of knowing the pain the diagnosis caused her loved ones.

"For my whole life, I have tried to be good, to be a good student and a good sister and a good daughter, and to protect my mother and never make her upset or angry," she wrote in her essay. "Now I have added a new tragedy to her life, to our family’s life, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it."

Schlossberg was a graduate of Yale and was married to her husband, George Moran, since 2017.
