During the Tuesday, January 13 episode of TODAY With Jenna and Sheinelle, Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones were joined by a very special guest. Oprah Winfrey came on the show to discuss her experience with taking a GLP-1 weight loss drug.

GLP-1 weight loss drugs, such as Ozempic or Wegovy, aid in weight loss by helping to reduce appetite and create the feeling of being full.

While this medication has helped Winfrey successfully lose weight, it has not been without its drawbacks, as she discussed during Tuesday’s show. These medications can be associated with some pretty unpleasant side effects, including nausea, diarrhea, and constipation.

"I never had nausea or diarrhea, but I did have the third one," Winfrey revealed to Hager and Jones.

Winfrey has, however, finally determined how to resolve the issue.

"I finally figured out, for me, what the right combination of magnesium and water is. I have to drink a lot of water... I have to have a gallon of water a day,” she said.

Winfrey first spoke out about her decision to take a GLP-1 weight loss drug back in 2023. She revealed that she had struggled with her weight as well as public scrutiny for 25 years.

"It was public sport to make fun of me for 25 years," she said at the time. "I have been blamed and shamed, and I blamed and shamed myself."

Winfrey also discussed why she decided to go public about taking a weight loss medication, despite knowing that some may criticize her.

"The fact that there's a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for. I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself," she said.
