The search for Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, has entered its second week, and tragically, it appears there are still far more questions than answers.

Monday, February 9, is potentially a very pivotal day in the case, due to a reported ransom note received by the Guthrie family from Nancy’s alleged abductor.

The ransom note reportedly demanded $6 million in bitcoin and set a deadline of 5:00 p.m. Arizona time, Monday. The note went on to threaten serious consequences if the payment was not received by the deadline.

At this time, it is still not known if the 84-year-old is still alive.

While the Guthrie family has asked for proof of life from their mother’s abductor, they have yet to receive that.

Even though the legitimacy of the ransom note has not been confirmed, law enforcement has made it clear that they are taking it extremely seriously. Adding to the concern is that officials have been unable to determine where the message was sent from.

Savannah and her siblings, Annie and Cameron, have posted several heartbreaking video messages in which they have begged for the return of their mother. In their latest video posted Saturday night, Savannah spoke directly to her mother’s kidnappers, saying that the family is ready to give them what they’re asking for.

“We received your message, and we understand,” she said. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her.”

“This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay,” she concluded.

Nancy, who is believed to have been taken from her Arizona home sometime late Saturday night, January 31, or early Sunday morning, February 1, is of “sound mind” but in very fragile physical health.

In recent days, law enforcement has continued to search in and around Nancy’s home, even looking within the septic tank.
