Convicted killer Mackenzie Shirilla has finally landed a job at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville, as confirmed by TMZ through the prison’s spokesperson, Tara Nickle.
Shirilla was convicted of the murders of her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and his friend Davion Flanagan, as a result of intentionally crashing her car into a brick building while driving at a speed of over 100 MPH. She was 17-years-old at the time. Russo was 20, and Flanagan was 19.
The tragedy that claimed the lives of the two young men took place in Strongsville, Ohio, in July of 2022. It was closely detailed in Netflix’s recent hit documentary The Crash.
Shirilla was sentenced to two concurrent terms of 15 years to life, with her first parole hearing scheduled for 2037. Since then, some of her prison phone calls with her mother, Natalie Shirilla, have been shared online. Natalie, as well as her husband Steve, has been very vocal about their belief that their daughter is innocent.
In one expletive-filled prison phone call with her mother, Shirilla complained about being bored in prison and stated that she doubted she would be given any sort of job behind bars due to the severity of her criminal charges.
The now 21-year-old could be heard groaning about what time it was and how she would entertain herself going forward.
Nevertheless, Shirilla will now have something to fill her time with as she has gotten a job as a food service worker within the prison.
Prison inmates make very little. While the exact amount of income Shirilla will be bringing in has not been released, it is known that inmates in Ohio could potentially make around $24 a month.
In that past prison phone call, Natalie Shirilla expressed sympathy for her daughter as she shared her complaints about life behind bars.
“I don’t know Kenzie, I don’t know. This is just…this super, super sucks.”
