Kate Beckinsale is getting real about the trials and tribulations that she’s gone through over the past year. In an emotional video she posted to her Instagram page on December 31, the 52-year-old actress opened up to her followers about the major losses she experienced during 2025 and within her life overall.
Beckinsale discussed losing her stepfather, Roy Battersby, several years ago. She would then lose her mother, Judy Loe, this past year.
“So as we end 2025, which was a really, really, hard year…it was also the last year that my incredible mom was on this planet, so I feel very torn about letting go of it as well,” she said, wiping away tears.
“But I just wish to address the fact that I lost my stepfather a couple of years ago, and I’d already watched my father die because my mom was in hospital and it was just me at the age of 5. I watched my father die of a huge heart attack, and then I watched my stepfather die, and then I watched my mother degenerate and…such an incredible amount of suffering,” she continued.
She went on to describe how these losses have taken away her appetite.
“It doesn’t make you feel very hungry,” she said, questioning if she could be experiencing survivor's guilt after losing so many people close to her.
Many fans have expressed concern, while others expressed criticism over Beckinsale’s weight loss in recent years. However, she explained that her weight loss has not been about “willpower” or simply not wanting to eat.
“It’s like my body has closed down. I think it’s shock and trauma, and I think watching…especially alone, the people you love the most dearly suffer and have horrific, sometimes violent, awful deaths, really makes you not hungry,” she acknowledged.
Despite her pain, Beckinsale expressed gratitude for the people who raised her to be the person she is today, noting that it would never cross her mind to leave cruel comments about someone else’s appearance.
