Carrie Underwood Opens Up About the ‘Challenges’ of Tennessee Farm Life

The country star says life on her family’s 400-acre Tennessee farm is ‘frustrating,’ ‘rewarding,’ and the complete opposite of Hollywood.

After leaving the Hollywood spotlight behind for a simpler life in Tennessee, Carrie Underwood is opening up about the challenges of living on her family’s 400-acre farm just outside of Nashville.

The country music singer continues to star as a judge on American Idol, but now spends the rest of her time in a very different setting.

In a recent interview with US Weekly, Underwood described running a farm as both “frustrating” and “exciting.”

“My goal is to just do as much as I can myself,” she said. “I love it. It’s a challenge, and it’s frustrating, and it’s exciting, and it’s rewarding, and just all the things.”

The 43-year-old’s 2019 move to Tennessee was motivated by her desire to focus on family life alongside her husband, retired NHL star Mike Fisher, and their two sons, Isaiah, 11, and Jacob, 9.

“I go home, and I had to have talks with my family at one point, because I was like, ‘OK, when I’m away, I’m like, Cinderella at the ball.’ I’m a princess, and it’s great,” she said.

However, when Underwood is off work and back at home, her days involve everything but sparkling dresses and heels.

“And then I come home, and I’m like, covered in dirt. I’m covered in poop. It’s just the polar opposite,” she went on. “I’m like, cleaning up after everybody and barefoot in the kitchen. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Underwood’s life on the farm consists of daily chores like gardening and caring for a variety of animals, including donkeys, chickens, sheep, horses, and cows.

However, she made it clear that she prefers this life over the illusion that Hollywood can often portray.

“This entertainment world that we live in is not reality,” she added. “Reality is vacuuming and cleaning toilets and doing laundry and gardening and cooking, and that’s a world I love.”
