Doctor Finds Cockroach in the Skull of a Woman Who Complained of a 'Crawling Sensation'

Doctors in India removed a living cockroach from a woman's skull after she complained of a "tingling, crawling" sensation.

Here's some news that'll make you feel really secure the next time you feel a slight spasm in your head. A 42-year-old woman in India had a "full grown cockroach" extracted from her skull after complaining about a painful "tingling, crawling" sensation to her doctors.

The insect, which was still alive when they ripped it out of her head, was found at the "skull base, between the two eyes, close to the brain." The process of taking it out of her took almost 45 minutes. In case you were wondering what that looks like (which you weren't) they captured the removal on video:

The bug evidently found its way into her head after crawling up her nose while she was sleeping. She did make an effort to brush it off her, but unfortunately by then it was already past the point of no return. "I could not explain the feeling but I was sure it was some insect," the victim(?) told the New Indian Express. "There was a tingling, crawling sensation. Whenever it moved, it gave me a burning sensation in my eyes. I spent the entire night in discomfort, sitting up and waiting for dawn to go to [the hospital]."

By the time the docs were able to get it out, the bastard had resided in her cranium for an estimated 12 hours. Removing the bug when they did was essential, as they said if it had remained inside for too long it would've died and an infection would've spread to the patient's brain.

Now lest this gives you some sort of anxiety, know that this is an extremely rare instance. Dr M N Shankar, the head ear, nose and throat physician at the hospital the woman went to for treatment, said it was unlike anything he's ever seen before. As he told the Express, "This is the first such case I have seen in my three decades of practice."

Really puts your mind at ease.
