On Monday Chick-Fil-A made a rare (as in really rare) non-chicken-related menu addition by giving their customers the option to order macaroni and cheese nationwide. More specifically, the childhood staple can be ordered as a lunch/dinner side, a Kid's Meal, or in a catering order.

While this may seem like a relatively small development, the mac-n-cheese add-on represents the notoriously change-averse company's first permanent side addition in three years. According to a statement from Chick-fil-A, the recipe for the dish involves a special blend cheddar of Parmesan and Romano cheeses.

Starting in July 2017, the mac-n-cheese side was tested in five markets: Baltimore, Houston/San Antonio, Phoenix, Nashville, and Greensboro, North Carolina.

"We have a very high bar when it comes to adding a menu item," said company executive Amanda Norris in a statement. "But the feedback from our customers in the test markets made this decision easy. I am excited it will be available for all of our guests across the country."

In addition to mac-n-cheese finally being available throughout the U.S., the restaurant chain also unveiled a seasonal limited-time Frosted Caramel drink for certain locations. They described that as a "hand-spun treat that combines Chick-fil-A's custom blend of cold-brewed coffee with vanilla Icedream dessert and caramel syrup." That will be available until Nov. 9.
