El Paso Community Gets Man New Car After Someone Wrecked It Following His Wife’s Funeral

The people of El Paso, Texas continue to rally around the victims of the horrific mass shootings.

Antonio Basco first made headlines when it was reported that his wife, Margie Reckard, was one of the 22 people killed during the shooting that took place at a local Walmart on Aug. 3. Hundreds of people responded to Basco's open invite to attend his wife's funeral. Yet, this sentimental moment turned sour when Basco discovered that his blue Ford Escape has been stolen and totaled following the service.

According to BuzzFeed, Basco lived in the car for a week. He parked the car in the Walmart parking lot near the memorial because the vehicle used to belong to his wife. At the time, the old Ford Escape has no air conditioning. This led employees at Casa Ford Lincoln to fix the AC and changed the car's tires. Like they did for the repairs and funeral, once it was revealed that his car had been stolen, the community of El Paso came together to support Basco.

After her husband helped Basco tow the car to his house, Vanessa Kondow shared the news on Facebook.

"WTF is wrong with people!? He just buried his wife yesterday and now this shit. This is the same vehicle CASA just completely serviced and repaired for him," Kondow wrote.

It only took ten shares for the co-owner of Casa Ford Lincoln, Ronnie Lowenfield, to learn of the travesty. Initially, Basco wanted the dealership just to repair the car so he could keep the memory of his wife alive, but they had a better option in mind.

"We had a blue Ford Escape in stock," Lowenfield told BuzzFeed. "So we donated it to him so that he could have a mode of transportation and still have a connection to his wife."
