Dog Delivers High-Risk Neighbor's Groceries to Protect Her From Coronavirus

One dog is being an incredibly good boy during this pandemic.

Karen Evelth has lived near Renee Hellman in Colorado for nearly a decade. Hellman has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and requires oxygen to breathe. As a result, it is necessary for her to stay in her home because she's at high risk of catching the coronavirus. To help out neighbor, Evelth has trained her dog, Sundance (or Sunny), to bring Hellman her groceries.

The dog runs behind Evelth's home and takes a path to Hellman's house. Here, he picks up Hellman's grocery list and takes it to the local store. He waits patiently until the shopping is complete, then he takes the groceries back to Hellman's house.

"He’s a hero for sure," Evelth told her local CBS affiliate. Hellman went on to explain that she didn't ask Evelth for Sunny's help and that the act of kindness came as a surprise.

"He just did it, it was, all of a sudden, and he was here, and that’s my job, and I’m gonna do it—so it was wonderful," Hellman said.

Evelth added, "She could not believe it, she always runs to the window to see that ‘Oh my god I can’t believe he did it again, and again, and again.'"

But, nothing in life is free. As expected, Sunny gets showered with treats for completing the task. "He does get his treats, he’s motivated by those for sure. But he’s really special to me, and I’d be lost without him because he helps me so much, so I wanted him to help other people. That’s exactly what he did. Pretty proud," Evelth said.

Sunny has been helping Hellman for a few weeks and will continue to do so until things calm down.
