A Man Is in Critical Condition After a Mystery Explosion in Central Park

The man's leg was reportedly severed by the explosion in Central Park.

An explosion in New York's Central Park severely injured a man who was rushed to Bellevue hospital with a "possible amputation" on Sunday morning. Police don't know what caused the blast near the Central Park Zoo, ABC Newsreports.

According to the Mirror, the victim was climbing rocks in the park before stepping on something that blew up. He sustained severe leg injuries and is currently in critical condition at the hospital.

WPIX TV reporter Rick Boone posted to Twitter that there is no serious threat right now.

Reporter Sarah Maslin Nir was nearby when the explosion occurred.

Now police think fireworks may be involved, which makes sense considering tomorrow's festivities.
