Protests against president-elect Donald Trump raged in cities around the country last night, and many people started reevaluating their birth control options now that the White House will be vehemently anti-choice as of Jan. 20. Across Twitter and various media outlets, women expressed concerns about access to various birth control methods (and abortion), and discussed getting long-lasting birth control such as IUDs.
Writer Sophia Benoit tweeted, "This is very serious: your right to an abortion could be gone. if you can, consider getting one they last 5-10 yrs." In an interview with The Intercept, she said, "I recommend the IUD right now especially because it’s long term, which with 20 million+ Americans potentially losing their health insurance and potentially right to an abortion, is important."
Many tweeted that anyone on birth control should switch to a long-term solution, in case they lose their insurance and can no longer afford options such as the pill, and additionally in case abortion becomes even less accessible.
