In a reversal from a popular campaign talking point, president-elect Donald Trump's transition team confirmed Tuesday morning that it will not be pursuing legal charges against Hillary Clinton. Kellyanne Conway, Trump's campaign manager and senior adviser for his White House transition told MSNBC's Morning Joe that Trump has decided not to re-open the investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State.

This decision comes after months of promises from Trump that he would put Clinton in jail over the now infamous 30,000 "missing emails" that Clinton deleted, saying they were all "personal" in nature. Trump called Clinton "Crooked Hillary" almost constantly, and it became a staple of his rallies for supporters to chant "lock her up!"

Morning Joe's Joe Scarborough asked Conway if Trump would also encourage Republicans in congress to drop the issue of Clinton's emails (which were federally investigated for months during the presidential campaign season), Conway responded, "When the president-elect, who’s also the head of your party now, tells you even before he’s inaugurated that he doesn’t wish to pursue these charges, it sends a very strong message, tone, and content to the members."

Conway also mentioned that Trump could perhaps help Clinton "heal" from the image that she is "untrustworthy." An NBC election day exit poll revealed that 60 percent of voters feel that Clinton is "dishonest and untrustworthy," compared to 33 percent who feel she is trustworthy.

Noting that the president-elect may be making other departures from his campaign promises and rhetoric, Conway said that Trump is "thinking of many different things as he prepares to become the president of the United States, and things that sound like the campaign are not among them."
