A Brockville, Ontario man is facing charges after allegedly pulling out a sword at a local restaurant over a vaccine passport dispute.

Brockville police report that on Feb. 27, the 39-year-old man and his friend were “causing issues” after being asked to show proof of vaccination. Police were notified of the argument after the man appeared to be wielding a homemade sword over his shoulder.

Upon police arrival, restaurant staff identified the men who were still inside the establishment. The man was arrested for possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and held for a bail hearing.

As of March 1, proof of vaccination will no longer be required in Ontario. However, businesses and other venues can still decide whether they want to ask guests for their vaccine certificates.

No injuries resulted from the situation and the sword is in custody of the police. The restaurant name and man’s identity have not been released by Brockville police.
