The historic Brexit decision has made waves stateside reinvigorating Texans' efforts for secession from the United States. Brexit, short for “British exit,” was the referendum Britain voted on to decide whether or not it should leave the European Union. Spoiler alert: Britain voted to leave causing an immediate effect on global markets, a decline in the worth of the British pound, and a petition for a second Brexit vote to arise.
Campaigning for Texit is the Texas Nationalist Movement. According to TNM's website here's why Texas should be independent:
TNM president Daniel Miller released a statement Thursday night, reported the New York Daily News, saying: "It is now important for Texas to look to #Brexit as an inspiration and an example that Texans can also take control of our destiny. It is time for Texans to rally with us and fight for the right to become a self-governing nation."
TNM says over 260,000 people have already signed a petition asking Texas Governor Greg Abbott to let the people vote on a secession like in Brexit.
