The wave of clown sightings has been addressed by Stephen King, likely the creator of your clown fear thanks to It, and an Insane Clown Posse member who delivered an insightful op-ed. It was only a matter of time before the World Clown Association responded to the sightings, which have ranged from mild (clowns just creeping) to clowns making threats to schools and reportedly chasing children with swords.

WCA President Randy Christensen said the creepy clowns who have been a part of the sightings are presumably wannabes because no "professional" clown would engage in that type of menacing behavior. "We're full of people that love children, bring smiles and want to help people laugh and bring comic relief," Christensen told the Australian Associated Press. "The people dressing up are trying to scare people, no professional clown would ever take part in anything like that." Christensen also said the sightings were bad for the public's perception of clowns, which has been evident since many WCA clowns have reportedly had their gigs canceled recently.

If you haven't been keeping up, these clown sightings have gone international. Last week in Wales a clown was caught on video outside a children's playground two nights in a row. In the U.S., the latest victims (if you want to call them that) of the clown craze were three New Mexico teens who got high and then got arrested for wearing clown masks and carrying airsoft guns.
