A man was found dead at Burning Man, the New York Times reports.

According to the Pershing County Sheriff's Office, the man was found lying on the ground in what was described as a "pool of blood."

The discovery was made at night, when the popular music and arts festival's namesake effigy was being burned.

According to the sheriff's office, the man's death is being investigated as a homicide. Multiple participants of the festival have been interviewed by authorities, per CNN.

"Although this act appears to be a singular crime, all participants should always be vigilant of their surroundings and acquaintances," the sheriff's office said.

An official statement from the festival said it's cooperating with law enforcement. “The safety and well-being of our community are paramount,” officials said in the statement.

The man's identity has not been made public at the time of writing.

A Day in the Desert is The next Burning Man

It's not frequented by Silicon Valley CEOs or potentially owned by a rap mogul. Tickets won't sell out in five minutes, and you don't have to prep your art car all year to survive it. But for those of us who didn't make it to the playa this year (or ever) and can't get a week off work (without quitting) there's a shining beacon of hope a few hours west of LA and it's called A Day in the Desert.
