Police Are Investigating After Woman in Vegetative State for 14 Years Gives Birth

A woman who had been in a vegetative state for 14 years due to a near drowning incident, gave birth to a baby, AZ Family reports.

The incident took place at Hacienda Skilled Nursing Facility in Phoenix, Arizona on Dec. 29. AZ Family’s source revealed that no one at the facility was even aware that the woman was pregnant until she was giving birth.

“From what I’ve been told, she was moaning. They didn’t know what was wrong with her. There was a nurse that was there, and from what I heard, she’s the one that delivered the baby,” the source said.

According to the insider, the baby is alive and healthy.

AZ Family reports that Arizona Adult Protective Services successfully completed health and safety checks on all members residing at the facility, and that the Arizona Department of Health is “actively working with local law enforcement in their criminal investigation.”

Still, no suspects have been named. The source says that many had access to the patient’s room because she required 24/7 care.

The facility has changed its protocol since the incident. “I was told that, as of now, if a male staff needs to enter a female’s room, they need to bring in a female employee with them,” the insider told AZ Family.
