The family of Uber Eats driver Mohammad Anwar has raised over 10 times more than its original $100,000 GoFundMe goal following a carjacking that left him dead.

As of Wednesday, the fundraiser has passed $1,051,000 and is currently no longer taking donations. The campaign was set up by Anwar’s nephew’s wife to help with funeral costs and provide financial support for the family. According to NBC Washington, Mohammad left behind a wife and two adult children in the U.S., as well as an adult son and four grandchildren in Pakistan.

Anwar “was a hard-working Pakistani immigrant who came to the United States to create a better life for him and his family,” creator Lehra Bogino wrote on the GoFundMe page. “He was simply at work yesterday evening, providing for his family, when his life was tragically taken in an appalling act of violence.”

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on March 23 in Washington D.C. when a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl reportedly attempted to carjack Anwar. The girls reportedly “assaulted the victim with a taser while carjacking the victim which resulted in a motor vehicle accident,” the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement, per People. Anwar tussled with the girls in the car before it crashed and Anwar was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

That day, the two girls were arrested and charged with felony murder and armed carjacking. On March 24, the pair pleaded “not involved” in juvenile court, the same as pleading not guilty.
