A stabbing has been reported in New York City, leaving one dead and one injured.

The New York Postreports that two people were stabbed in Manhattan on Saturday night at around 11 p.m. The first victim was a 40-year-old man who was knifed in the stomach and a 29-year-old man who sustained a chest wound on West 146th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Hamilton Heights.

Both men were taken to Harlem Hospital, where the 40-year-old died. The 29-year-old is still on the mend. Police have apprehended one person for questioning.

At the beginning of this month, a man was fatally stabbed at Dave & Busters in Times Square after getting in an argument with another man at the venue’s prize-ticket counter. The man was stabbed in the chest and the suspect fled the scene.

Another recent stabbing happened in April when a man was stabbed in Lower Manhattan in what police called an “unprovoked attack.” The attacker approached the 36-year-old man from behind and stuck a “sharp object” in the back of his head at around 2:45 a.m. Luckily, his wounds weren’t fatal.

These attacks come as New York City is seeing a surge in crimes, which reportedly rose 44 percent in April. “The rising recidivism in New York City is up substantially from 2019,” Michael Lipetri, chief of the NYPD’s Crime Control Strategies, said in early May. “The data is clear and simple. Individuals that continue to get arrested multiple times continue and continue to commit these crimes.”
