In a new column for Newsweek, former New York Times reporter Kurt Eichenwald describes the many ways he and his family have been harassed by online trolls who support Donald Trump.
One Twitter attack in particular stands out for Eichenwald, who has epilepsy and has written a number of high-profile stories about Trump, including the recent Newsweek cover story that reported Trump's company violated the Cuban embargo by doing business in the communist nation in the late '90s.
Eichenwald describes a Twitter user named Mike's Deplorable AF randomly sending him a video of Pepe the Frog—that cartoon frog recently identified as a hate symbol—meant to give him a seizure.
Eichenwald goes on to describe all sorts of online harassment against him and his family since he's been covering Trump, including death threats, anti-Jewish slurs, and Nazi cartoons. He also describes the many ways other journalists have been harassed after writing about Trump.
Though he writes that Mike's Deplorable AF has since deleted the tweet that contained the Pepe vid, the account is still active and tweeting stuff like this:
