An alleged feud between two elderly neighbors turned violent when a 76-year-old woman shot her neighbor in the face with a flare—and it was all caught on video.
Doorbell footage obtained by NBC New York shows 67-year-old Richard Catrone walking his dog at the Belmont Villas Senior Apartments in Suffolk County when he stops in front of 76-year-old Kathleen Schuman's unit.
Armed with a flare gun, Schuman is seen taking aim and firing the flare into Catrone's face—causing him to retaliate with force, and knocking Schuman to the ground.
Catrone can be heard saying, "You f****** idiot, what is wrong with you?" during the scuffle.
NBC reports Schuman was charged with assault for the incident, she has since pled not guilty. Schuman was seen with a bandage over her right eye during her court appearance where her bail was set a $5,000.
The outlet also reports Schuman was ordered by a judge to stay away from Catrone. She's reportedly now staying with a relative after being allowed back into her unit to retrieve some of her belongings.
In an interview with NBC New York, Catrone—who needed multiple stitches for the injury on his cheek, said, "Kathleen showed no emotion, she claimed I was the devil, she claimed I tried to murder her. And she said 'I’m sorry I missed, I’m sorry I missed.'"
He went on to say, "I’ve lived in Manhattan, I’ve lived in San Francisco, I’ve lived in Boston and nothing ever happens there. I move to Suffolk County in a senior community and my neighbor shoots me in the face with a flare."
The whole feud allegedly started with a disagreement centering around Schuman's cat and Catrone's dog—Catrone claimed the cat was upsetting his dog when Schuman would bring the animal outside.
He told the outlet, "I just asked her, can you keep the cat inside and that started the situation."
