A dispute over a soda inside a Taco Bell in West Palm Beach, Florida, turned into a shooting on Monday, April 27, leaving one person injured and another in custody, according to police.

According to WPTV, the incident occurred around noon at the restaurant in the 4300 block of 45th Street, near Military Trail. Investigators say an argument broke out inside the store and escalated quickly. During the confrontation, one individual, identified as an employee of the fast-food giant, pulled out a firearm and fired multiple shots.

Officers responded to the scene and took a suspect into custody for questioning. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with what authorities described as minor injuries.

Witness video and statements indicate the conflict began over a fountain drink, though police have not publicly confirmed that detail as the official cause. The altercation appears to have involved both customers and employees before the situation turned violent. The store was active at the time, with multiple people inside during the lunch rush.

Rob Steiner, who was inside the restaurant, described how quickly the situation escalated. He told the outlet that the argument grew “louder and louder” before a shot was fired.

“I didn’t know it was a gunshot at first,” Steiner said.

After a second shot, he said, “I could see the gunpowder and everything… that’s when I went into fight or flight, and just ran out of the building.”

The shooting took place along a stretch of 45th Street that has been the focus of past law enforcement activity. The corridor near North Military Trail has seen prior violent incidents and ongoing policing tied to broader public safety concerns. It is also a heavily traveled area with nearby schools and commercial businesses.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved, and no formal charges have been announced. The investigation remains active.
