A Scottish creator who left her job as a high school physics teacher after students discovered her explicit OnlyFans account is now facing a significant tax penalty from the U.K.’s tax agency for her platform revenue.

According to the BBC, Kirsty Buchan, 34, was employed at Bannerman High School in Glasgow when her paid OnlyFans page—where she posted under the name “Jessica Jackrabbit”—surfaced among students in late 2022.

Buchan described herself on the platform as a “good teacher gone bad,” and later told reporters she joined OnlyFans because her teaching salary wasn’t enough to make ends meet. After the school learned that pupils had accessed the content, she resigned.

In June, the General Teaching Council for Scotland officially struck Buchan off the national teaching register, ending her ability to work in classrooms across the country. The disciplinary panel noted her interviews with the Daily Record, where she claimed she could earn up to £50,000 per month through OnlyFans, as part of the case.

This week, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) listed Buchan among 160 individuals and businesses it identifies as “deliberate tax defaulters.” According to the filing, Buchan failed to pay £38,902.37 (roughly $48,000) in taxes between April 2022 and April 2023. Following an investigation, she was issued a penalty of £25,189.28, pushing her total liability even higher.

HMRC publishes the names of individuals who owe more than £25,000 in unpaid tax and remain non-compliant. Those listed stay online for up to 12 months.

“We are committed to tackling those who deliberately default on the tax they owe,” Kevin Hubbard, HMRC’s director of individual and small business compliance, said in a statement. “By publishing the names of deliberate defaulters and their penalties, we send a clear message that non-compliance has consequences.”

Buchan, who lives in Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, told BBC Scotland News she is pushing back on parts of the tax assessment. “I am not avoiding paying the tax bill,” she said. “I am in the process of disputing the penalty charges and the final amount owed. Once that is all sorted, I will be clearing any tax owed.”

Before turning to OnlyFans, Buchan said she took on extra jobs—including shifts at Tesco and a seasonal role as a Christmas elf—to cover her expenses.

She previously reported that some of her images were illegally downloaded and shared among students, which she said contributed to her decision to leave teaching altogether.
