The fallout from disgraced Houston police officer Ashley Gonzalez’s termination is expanding beyond her own career. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has launched a sweeping review of every case tied to the former Houston Police Department officer, raising new questions about the integrity of her past work.
According to Fox26 Houston, the review is already underway and will examine both open and closed cases involving Gonzalez. Prosecutors said they are moving quickly to notify defense attorneys of any involvement that could impact ongoing proceedings.
In a statement, the DA’s office made its position clear: “Racism is abhorrent; the fact we have to lead the statement with this is disgraceful,” adding that a “thorough, analytical process” is being conducted to assess every case she touched.
Houston Police Internal Affairs confirmed Gonzalez’s conduct violated department policy and remains under formal review.
The decision reflects standard protocol when an officer’s credibility is called into question, especially in situations involving misconduct or termination.
In Houston, case reviews can be triggered by issues ranging from internal investigations to broader audits, including the city’s ongoing effort to reassess hundreds of thousands of previously suspended reports. When an officer’s conduct raises concerns, prosecutors are obligated to ensure that prior arrests, reports, and testimony meet legal standards.
Police Chief J. Noe Diaz did not mince words when addressing Gonzalez’s conduct, calling it “abhorrent, disgusting, and entirely unacceptable.”
The clips, which circulated widely after initially being shared privately, also appeared to show her discussing how she might approach policing situations involving Black individuals.
She had been relieved of duty prior to her termination, turning in her badge and equipment as the investigation progressed.
