Texas High School Principal Apologizes After Complaining Students Posed 'Like They’re Dr. Dre'

Anthony LiVechhi, a Texas principal, has apologized after he suggested students were making the school look bad by “posing like they’re Dr. Dre.”

The principal at Oak Ride High School in Texas has apologized after he suggested students were making the school look bad by “posing like they’re Dr. Dre.”

As NBC’s Click2Houston reported last week, principal Anthony LiVechhi courted controversy after he addressed his students and criticized them. “It’s embarrassing. It’s frustrating," he could be heard saying in a video that went viral. "You got people taking pictures [and] posing like they’re Dr. Dre from the 90s. Doesn’t make our school look good.”

Additionally, some students accused LiVechhi of saying the students “looked like criminals.” Senior Nekia Baker said that LiVechhi allegedly commented that it was his “worst day being principal because of the way that [students] dressed.”

Shortly after the comments, both students and parents at the school expressed their disappointment with the principal and suggested he was being racist. A meeting between parents, activist Quanell X, and school officials was held in the days that followed, and 100 students at the school sat or kneeled in protest during the meeting. LiVecchi, in a cell phone video, apologized after the meeting.

“I love you all,” he said in the clip. “That’s not how you need to be treated. It won’t happen again.”

However, the local NBC affiliate cautioned that the students might not be done making noise about the incident just yet. "According to several students, during Monday's peaceful protest there were some other students making racist remarks and terroristic threats in person and on social media," the station added.
