Racist ‘Plantation’ Texts Allegedly Sent to People Nationwide After Election

People in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, and Michigan have reported receiving the text.

People across various states have reported receiving racist text messages telling they've been "selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation" following the outcome of the 2024 Presidential Election.

Per WCNC, people across North Carolina and South Carolina received the racist messages, which identified people by name and told them they were going to be collected and forced into slavery. The messages followed a similar template, although they would specify a fictional "plantation group" number. In response, Clemson University has issued a statement after various students reported getting a variation of the text message.

"The Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) has received reports of students receiving text messages containing disparaging language from unrecognized numbers," reads the statement. "These numbers have been determined to be associated with online spoofing sites. CUPD is actively investigating the matter and working with state partners to identify the source of the messages."

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares has also responded to the text messages and said that there is an ongoing investigation to find who is responsible.

As reported by Fox 5 Atlanta and Fox 2 Detroit, Georgia and Detroit-area residents have also reported receiving the racist message. Some of the messages received in Georgia reportedly include warnings about threats from white supremacists and KKK members. The message previously circulated online, as the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office shared.

The messages started to circulate the day it was confirmed that Donald Trump will be returning to the White House next year after winning the election. Trump won four of the five states where the messages have been reported, losing only Virginia of the bunch.
