In an interview with Stephen Colbert, former President Barack Obama admitted that the government “is terrible at keeping secrets,” and there would already have been a leak if there was any concrete proof of extraterrestrial life.
At one point of the interview, which can be seen in full above, Colbert asked Obama about his assertion earlier this year that aliens are real, but he hasn’t seen them personally. After his comments, as Colbert noted, he tried to walk back on what he said, but at that point it was too late and people jumped to their own conclusions.
“I thought it was so obvious what I meant,” said Obama, responding to Colbert suggesting what he meant was that there’s likely alien life out there somewhere.
“For those of you who still think that we’ve got little green men underground somewhere, one of the things you learn as president is… [the] government is terrible at keeping secrets,” he shared. “This idea of conspiracy theories… If there were aliens, alien patients or anything, under the control of the United States Government that we knew about… I promise you some guy guarding the installation would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend.”
Obama added that he would be thrilled if aliens were, in fact, real.
“I’m putting in a plug now… First contact, I think I would be a good emissary for the planet,” he said. “I’ve got… some experience in statecraft, diplomacy. I’m friendly. So, I actually think, you know, I can do a pretty good job.” Despite suggesting that he would be a good person to greet aliens who came to earth, he wanted to reiterate that such first contact “hasn’t happened yet.”
Speaking with Brian Tyler Cohen earlier this year, Obama said that he thinks aliens are real, but there’s no secret underground facility where proof of alien life is being kept.
His latest interview talking about the possibility of aliens arrives just as the Pentagon released never-before-seen photos of suspected unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), per USA Today.
“The latest UAP videos, photos, and original source documents from across the entire United States government are all in one place—no clearance required,“ The White House said in a statement shared with Fox News. “While past administrations sought to discredit or dissuade the American people, President Trump is focused on providing maximum transparency to the public, who can ultimately make up their own minds about the information contained in these files".”
