23-year-old Boston woman Jassy Correia was reported missing shortly after she was kidnapped early Sunday, Feb. 24 while celebrating her birthday. Less than a week later, her body has been found, as Delaware Online reports. On Feb. 28 Delaware State Police chased down a car driven by 32-year-old Louis D. Coleman III, eventually discovering Correia's body in the trunk.
Boston police have said that the investigation remains "active and ongoing," with a cause of death yet to be determined. Correia's family confirmed to reporters that her body was found in the trunk of Coleman's car, and that he's since been arrested. The last time Correia was seen in public was on a surveillance video leaving the Venu Nightclub with a man believed to be Coleman in the early hours of Sunday morning, entering a maroon Nissan Altima with him.
“She was a mother, she was brave, she was strong,” Correia's cousin Katia Depina said in speaking with the Boston Globe." She did not deserve this. She went out to celebrate her birthday and never returned home." Rhode Island Police Chief Hugh Clements Jr. has said that a homicide investigation has been launched, and that Coleman's home in Providence is currently being searched for evidence.
Coleman was allegedly seen carrying his victim into his home in Providence, spotted with her on surveillance cameras. He was later seen walking out of his apartment with two briefcases. Correia was not seen when Coleman exited the building. Correia was mother to her 2-year-old daughter.
