Former DNC Chairman Says Joe Biden Would "Win Overwhelmingly" Against Trump in 2020

It's unclear whether former vice president Joe Biden is interested in running for president in 2020, but former Democratic National Committee chairman Ed Rendell is confident that he should be. Speaking on John Catsimatidis' AM 970 radio show in New York, Rendell said that Biden would "win overwhelmingly" if he were to go up against President Donald Trump in 2020. "To me it’s clear-cut: Joe Biden is our superstar," Rendell said, according to Newsweek.

Biden previously considered running for president in 2016, but following the death of his son Beau Biden he announced he'd be staying out of the race. However, following Hillary Clinton's defeat in 2016, Biden gone on record saying that he regrets not running, believing that he could very well have beaten Trump.

"There's only one person I can say who will definitely win the election and has a superstar appeal in almost every state in the union, and that's [former] vice president Biden," Rendell explained.

One of the bigger concerns with possible Democratic presidential nominees for 2020 is age, with both 75-year-old Biden and 76-year-old Bernie Sanders cited as viable candidates. The former Pennsylvania governor, who led the DNC from 1999 to 2001, reasoned that Biden should be fine if Trump is surviving. "Of course, people say [Biden's] too old," Rendell said. "But he's only a year and a half older than President Trump, and he's in infinitely better shape. I don't think age would be a factor in a Biden-Trump election."

Not all Democrats would agree with Rendell. A few days ago, Howard Dean, the DNC chair from 2005 to 2009, called for older people like his 69-year-old self to get to the sidelines. “This young generation is going to pay for that if we don’t get the hell out of the way and have somebody who is 50 running the country,” he said to NBC News.
