People around the globe placed billions in bets on the outcome of the U.S. presidential election.
As reported by NBC News, online betting platform Polymarket revealed that over $3.6 billion in bets were placed on the presidential election. The platform, which isn't intended for U.S. users, saw $1.5 billion wagered on a Donald Trump victory and $1 billion wagered on a Kamala Harris victory. Bets on the outcomes in specific states, meanwhile, brought in $270 million on Polymarket, and $120 million on U.S. betting platform Kalshi.
The state that saw the most interest from gamblers was Pennsylvania, one of the key swing states in the election. Michigan and Georgia, other prominent and highly-contested swing states, were also popular on Polymarket and Kalshi.
Per The Wall Street Journal, one Polymarket user said he bet over $28 million on Trump, who won the election with 312 electoral votes against Harris' 226 votes. Utilizing 11 different accounts across different platforms, the outcome saw that one person walk away with approximately $83.5 million in winnings.
Former Apprentice host and convicted felon Donald Trump will return to the White House in January, and this time his supporters won't even need to make a scene to make sure it happens. Trump also won the popular vote, something he didn't manage in the 2016 election despite winning more electoral votes.
