Lawyer Shot in Head Three Months After Wife and Son Were Murdered (UPDATE)

UPDATED 9/9, 9:48 a.m. ET: The story of the Murdaugh murders will now be the subject of a new project on HBO Max.

As Deadline’s Peter White revealed Wednesday, the streaming platform is now developing a multi-part series under the working title Murdaugh Family Mysteries with Campfire Studios.

Campfire, notably, is the same team behind the recent Hulu documentary on the WeWork company.

A notable South Carolina attorney was shot in the head while changing a tire, just three months after both his wife and son were murdered, CNN reports.

Alex Murdaugh called the police after he was shot in Hampton County on Saturday afternoon, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division spokesperson Tommy Crosby confirmed. He was ultimately treated for a gunshot wound to the head at a hospital in Savannah, Georgia. He’s expected to recover.

Jim Griffin, Murdaugh’s attorney, said the popular attorney turned around after a vehicle passed him, as it then shot at him. No arrests have been made, the SLED shares.

“The Murdaugh family has suffered through more than any one family could ever imagine,” a family spokesperson has since added.

On June 7, Murdaugh reported that he found his wife Margaret and 22-year-old son Paul dead outside of their home in Islandton, South Carolina. Colleton County Sheriff’s deputies determined that they suffered gunshot wounds, and the murders have not yet been solved even after the SLED took over the investigation. At the time, Murdaugh announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

At the time of his shooting, he was facing charges of boating under the influence causing great bodily injury and causing death, after a boating accident he was in took the life of a 19-year-old woman in 2019.
