Fox News Refers to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador As 'Three Mexican Countries'

Tell us how you really feel, 'Fox & Friends.'

With Donald Trump in office, it seems that Fox News has become more comfortable with saying the quiet part out loud. But even by their lax journalistic and ethical standards, their latest gaffe is egregious. During a segment on Fox & Friends discussing Trump's ending of foreign aid to Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, the chyron beneath the hosts read "Trump cuts U.S. aid to 3 Mexican countries."

Of course, there is only one Mexican country. It's called Mexico. The three countries are Central American or Latin American, but they are their own nations and they do not belong to Mexico. Even that response is giving Fox News too much credit, however. The mistake appears to be the type that can only be made by someone who refers to all Latin Americans as "Mexican."

The network corrected itself and apologized before the morning show was over.

"We want to clarify and correct something that happened earlier in the show. We had an inaccurate graphic on screen," they said. "We just want to be clear the funding is being cut off to three Central American countries. We apologize for the error it never should have happened."

It's not the first time that Fox News' flagship morning program has goofed. Earlier this year, they mistakenly implied that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is dead. Last year, the hosts got in on the act and called Trump a "dictator" by mistake.
