Newly released police documents are exposing texts between a former middle school teacher in Arizona and her student, uncovered by the parents of the victim.
According to local NBC affiliate KPNX, 27-year-old Brittany Zamora reportedly coerced and assaulted a 13-year-old student while working as a sixth-grade teacher at Las Brisas Academy Elementary School in Goodyear.
The police report shows Zamora abused a classroom chat called “Class Craft,” where she asked students to text her. The victim told police Zamora began flirting with him, and the situation became “really intense,” before escalating to sexual abuse.
“Omg lol you’re so cute baby,” Zamora had written in one message. “I wish you could’ve stayed after with me.”
Between February and March, Zamora abused the student four times. She also solicited naked photos. After getting suspicious, the boy’s parents installed a parental control on his cellphone and found the text messages. They then confronted their son, who admitted to the abuse.
Three other students went to the principal after noticing “issues” between their classmate and Zamora, according to KPNX. They wrote a letter to the Principal Tim Dickey on Feb. 7, before the assaults took place. Dickey has since acknowledged his mistake of not investigating the matter more thoroughly. The first assault took place on Feb. 16, more than a week after the letter was given to the principal.
The teacher later resigned and was arrested. The arrest followed a recorded call with the teens parents, where Zamora begged them not to turn her over to police.
“I don’t want to say stuff and have me recorded right not and bring this to court and have me go to jail for the rest of my life,” Zamora said, something she probably should have considered before sexually assaulting a child.
She remains in custody at a Maricopa County jail after pleading not guilty to multiple charges, including felony sexual conduct with a minor and molesting a child.
