Michelle Obama Is Tired of 'Watching Men Fail Up'

The former first lady once again denied the possibility of her own presidential run.

Michelle Obama sat down with Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross for 40 minutes during the United State of Women summit in Los Angeles on Saturday. Per Mashable, during the course of their conversation the former first lady dismissed the prospect of her running for president and addressed today's negative political climate.

"That's not the answer, either," she said, responding to an audience member calling for her presidential run. "When I hear people say, 'You run,' it's part of the problem. We still didn't get 'Yes we can' right. It's not yes you can, it's yes we can. And until we get that right, it doesn't matter who runs. And look, I don't think I'm any different from Hillary."

Without mentioning Donald Trump directly, Obama went on to express her frustration with men who fail tremendously and still make their way to the top. "I wish that girls could fail as bad as men do, and be okay," she said, "because let me tell you, watching men fail up—it is frustrating. It's frustrating to see a lot of men blow it and win. And we hold ourselves to these crazy, crazy standards."

Ellis Ross later asked her how she manages to navigate today’s stressful political climate. Obama made it clear that for her, it always comes back to the kids. "That's what this is all for," Obama said. "Because of them we can’t give up. What choice do we have? What future am I passing on to my girls and all our kids if I wake up and I’m hopeless? There is no use in that. All we have is hope."
