Group of Brooklyn-Based Witches Host Event to Hex Brett Kavanaugh

Double, double toil and trouble, looks like Brett Kavanaugh is going to be the target of some political witchcraft.

As Time reports, a group of Brooklyn-based witches plan to put a hex on Kavanaugh next weekend at Catland Books in Bushwick. Though the event is focused on the newly-confirmed Supreme Court Justice, participants will also curse “all rapists and the patriarchy.”

“[Brett Kavanaugh] will be the focal point, but by no means the only target, so bring your rage and all of the axes you’ve got to grind,” the store’s invite reads. "The event will embrace the powers of witchcraft to bring justice “to those of us who have been wronged by men just like him.”

Ahead of his confirmation, Kavanaugh was accused of sexual misconduct by several women. Last month, one of his accusers testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, recounting her traumatic personal experience with Kavanaugh in high school. Despite this credible testimony and other noted instances when Kavanaugh lied under oath, he was still confirmed to the highest court in the land.

“We wanted to have an act of resistance,” the event’s organizer Dakota Bracciale told Time. “It’s about having space for survivors of sexual assault who are not going to be silent and who don’t want to Brett Kavanaugh to serve as a symbol of defeat.”

These modern-day witches have gained attention by hexing Trump in the past. After next weekend’s hex on Kavanaugh, they plan to hold another event to help survivors dubbed “The Rites of the Scorned One.”

“We’re raising visibility and letting people know they’re not alone with the monsters,” Bracciale said. “Even the witches are coming out of the woodwork to stop this.”

The event takes place on Oct. 20, and cost $10 to attend, but unfortunately is already sold out. Half of the proceeds will go to the Ali Forney Center and Planned Parenthood.
