The city that never sleeps is truly without rest this week as New York is still buzzing with excitement following the Knicks winning the NBA title for the first time in 53 years. Jalen Brunson, KAT, OG Anunoby and Co. haven’t even paraded down Manhattan’s famed Canyon of Heroes yet, but NBA title odds for next season have already popped up.
The Knicks are not the favorite to win it all in 2027. In fact, they aren’t even favored to win their own conference.
The Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder are the co-favorites to win the 2027 title at Fanatics Sportsbook with prices of +250 each. The Boston Celtics, who are expected to shake up their roster this summer, are the favorites to win the East and are +600 to win the 2027 title. The Knicks are +750 to defend their crown.
After New York at +750, there is a big dropoff on the odds board as the Nuggets and Pistons are next at +2500.
San Antonio Spurs (+250)
The young Spurs just weren’t ready for the NBA’s grandest stage as the Knicks finished them off in a gentleman’s sweep. But there is no denying that there is a boatland of talent in south-central Texas and this team isn’t going anywhere so long as Victor Wembanyama remains healthy.
Spurs GM Brian Wright will likely look to shore up the backup center role this summer after Luke Kornet was largely ineffective in the role during the postseason.
Oklahoma City Thunder (+250)
The Thunder are another team that doesn’t really need to tinker too much this off-season. OKC is just one year removed from a championship, and it was just 48 minutes away from making a return trip to the NBA Finals this past season.
Thunder GM Sam Presti may need to trade away Luguentz Dort for financial reasons, though, as they are $28 million over next year’s second apron even without him on the roster. OKC’s core will likely remain unchanged despite Chet Holmgren’s lackluster performance in the Western Conference Finals loss to the Spurs.
Boston Celtics (+600)
It’s somewhat surprising to see the Celtics this high on the odds board considering they lost in the second round to the Knicks in 2025, and lost in the first round to the 76ers this past postseason. However, oddsmakers are likely factoring in the likelihood that Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens shakes up his roster this summer. Boston has been heavily linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo in recent weeks. The C’s will also have a fully healthy Jayson Tatum on their roster this fall, for the first time in over a year.
New York Knicks (+750)
To say we are in an era of basketball parity would be a grand understatement, as no NBA team has repeated as champion since the 2017-18 Golden State Warriors. New York will take on the role of the proverbial hunted in 2026-27, rather than the hunter, as all opponents will be gunning for the champs. The Knicks are expected to run it back with mostly the same unit. Re-signing Mitchell Robinson will be a top priority for Knicks president Leon Rose.
